Circle R Chaps came into existence because of a childhood dream; a dream that began when I met Gerald Roberts.
It was a sad day when legendary Twice All-Around World Champion Rodeo Cowboy Gerald Roberts passed away on the last day of 2005. It seemed the end of an incredible legacy. Gerald had not only a stellar professional rodeo career but he had built an impeccable business making rodeo chaps at Chap-Parel, his manufacturing company in Abilene, Kansas. As a young boy of 11 years old, I dreamed of working for Gerald making rodeo chaps and learning what it meant to be a real cowboy. I managed to hitch rides after school every day so that I could hang out in Gerald’s rodeo chap making shop, just to soak it all in. After 2 weeks of loitering around, Gerald finally said to me, “Well, you’d just as well start working for me if you’re going to be here anyway.” That was when my dream career began. I loved working there for Gerald; he taught me his craft and gave me bull riding tips along the way. As I grew up and life’s changes came my way, so did jobs in other industries. No matter where I was in my career though, I always dreamed of being back at Chap-Parel.
In April 2007, the Roberts family decided to sell the building where Chap-Parel once thrived, along with all of its equipment. I jumped at this opportunity as if it were my planned destiny. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as the proud owner of that famous building and all of its wonderful memories.
Although Chap-Parel is no longer in operation, my new business, called Circle R Chaps, will continue to provide excellent rodeo chaps and western apparel. It is our mission to provide you with exemplary rodeo products and attentive service. We have many exciting product lines and upgrades coming soon and we look forward to sharing those with you.
